Port of Liverpool
Harbour Information, Terminals and Facilities
(Liverpool, Merseyside, England, UK)
Both banks of the River Mersey are used by the Port of Liverpool, which is one of Britain's chief ports. A significant factor in the port's importance and popularity is its geographic position. It is the second richest freight vicinity in the United Kingdom and has excellent connections by road and rail.
The Passenger Ferry Terminals can be found on the Liverpool side of the River. The terminals offer limited but sufficient facilities like drinks and snacks vending machines.
The brand new construction of the £30 million ultra-modern Twelve Quays River Terminal at Birkenhead contains a cafeteria with lounge, check-in hall, covered check-in areas for both cars and trucks, and a separate rest area with shower facilities for truck drivers. Here, you will find excellent facilities for travellers with disabilities.
Drop off and pick-up points for buses and taxis are located outside the terminal. Both passengers and cargo travel across a multi-lane connected bridge to the floating stages, where two vessels can berth at the same time to provide fast and efficient boarding.
Super Seacat Fast Ferries provides two daily sailings to Ireland, although this does depend on the number of passengers and weather conditions. Journey time is approximately 3 hours, 45 minutes.
Two daily crossings to Dublin are offered by P&O Irish Sea Ferries. Crossing time is about eight hours and the ferries carry both passengers and freight.
The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company operates five daily sailings to Douglas on the Isle of Man during peak season. Duration of the trip is 2 hours, 30 minutes.
Two daily crossings to Belfast in Northern Ireland are offered by Norfolk Irish Sea Ferries, taking approximately eight hours. The company also operates two daily sailings to Dublin. Duration of this trip is about seven hours.
